Lydia Starkey is an illustrator from London. She studied Illustration at the University West of England in Bristol.
Specialising in hand drawing and watercolour painting, though she also loves experimenting with all mediums and developing new skills. In 2015, she broadened her craft by developing her digital skills and with the help of the Prince's Trust foundation set up Pine Studios; a greeting cards company specialising in high quality printed watercolour cards which are stocked across the UK.
Lydia’s work is often inspired by her wide travel experiences and nature. Watercolour is a medium which she finds really inspiring to work with, it has a mind of its own at times and requires patience and the willingness to explore unexpected consequences. Lydia loves to sketch from observation using paints, ink and watercolour. Especially enjoying her studies of people, fruits, food and nature. She believes that her practice always has the need to grow, with no boundaries, to develop and challenge herself is a constant for her. As well as pushing herself in her craft, she has taught drawing and art to both children and adults, an experience she finds inspirational and rewarding.
Lydia has over 10 years experience within the creative industry and with clients worldwide. Every piece begins with lots of research, drawing and tea!
